We Are the City Award

The pandemic had stalled some of the research I was undertaking for the Indian women and war project. As I was planning research trips once the current lockdown was over, I got confirmation that I have become a finalist for an award I was not expecting. The team at We Are the City had contacted me stating that I was a finalist as part of their Rising Star campaign. Along with other powerful women, I was being awarded under the category of Charity and Non-for-profit.

The award recognised the work I do with my organisation, Believe in Me CIC of helping to make education become more accessible to the community. As the pandemic forced events to be cancelled my award was posted out to me along with a box of goodies. The online ceremony was great and attended by so many amazing women doing amazing things with science, technology and in Armed Forces. It was also a chance to get dressed up for the evening as the pandemic had stopped us all from a decent social life which included the infamous pink lipstick. Cancer Research UK had sponsored the award in my category, a charity close to many people’s hearts and supported by many.

We still have a long way to go but I would like to give a special thank to Vanessa Vallely OBE for always supporting and creating new platforms for the work I do.
